Aspens: Retail Edition
A tight 30-minute two-player strategy game about growing a forest, claiming territory, and reading your opponent across a shared board. Easy to learn, surprisingly sharp, and built for the person you play games with most.
Game At A Glance
Grow the forest. Outwit the person across the table.
You and the person across the table are both planting seedlings in the same patch of ground. Every turn the sun shifts, the wind changes direction, and you have to decide whether to grow your existing forest taller or push outward into open territory before your opponent gets there first.
Aspens is a two-player strategy game that plays in about half an hour. You start by seeding a forest space next to each water tile, and from there every turn follows the same rhythm. Roll the sun die, and both players generate trees on the spaces tall enough to catch the light. Roll the wind die, and you learn which directions you can expand into. Then you plant, choosing between building up what you already have or stretching into new ground.
That decision, over and over, is the whole game. Growing taller means more trees next turn. Expanding outward means more territory when the board fills up. Lean too hard either way and your opponent will punish you for it.
It's the kind of game that fits beautifully into couples' game night, a quiet afternoon with a friend, or any two-person routine where you want something more interesting than another round of a card game. The rules land in a few minutes. The strategy keeps unfolding for a long time after that.
Quick to teach, quick to play, and genuinely rewarding to come back to. A good one for the shelf you actually reach for.
